Kitchen makeovers improve house value

Investing in a new kitchen can help to partly pay for itself by increasing the value of a property, according to the editor of a consumer magazine.Which? Moneys Martyn Hocking claimed installing an upgraded, modern kitchen could lead to a four per cent rise in the homes price.Writing in the Manchester Evening News, Mr Hocking suggested that other home improvement projects could have a similarly positive effect.These include fitting double glazing, which provides improve energy efficiency savings and reduces noise as well as adding 3.75 per cent to the propertys value. Meanwhile, a new bathroom could result in an increase of two per cent.Mr Hocking also urged homeowners to take advantage of green tax breaks that are designed to encourage measures such as installing loft insulation, draft protection and cavity wall insulation.A recent survey of Which? members found that 50 per cent of respondents had taken steps to improve their home over the past year.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18583332-ADNFCR
