Kitchen layout must be effective and meet needs

The layout of a kitchen must be effective and meet the needs of those using it, one home website states.According to Home and Garden Television (HGTV), beautiful cabinets, the latest appliances and high-end finishes do not matter if the layout does not meet the needs of the homeowners lifestyle. It recommends that the floor plan is customised to reflect how each individual kitchen will function.Speaking to the news provider, interior designer Sara Busby says the work triangle of the sink, oven and fridge is no longer as relevant because there are often more cooks in the kitchen and extra appliances to consider.Instead, a work station approach is advised, where areas for things such as preparation, cooking, storage and cleaning are centred around a major appliance and its landing area of at least 15 inches of adjacent countertop. Finally, HGTV says in order for a kitchen to function properly it must be well lit with layered and blended lights.Designer Bonnie Schut has also said this month that the work triangle may not be as relevant for modern kitchens as having different work zones for separate activities.
