Kitchen islands encourage social gathering

People who like to entertain in their home should consider getting a kitchen island, it has been claimed. Designer Jenny Martin stated that food-preparation areas are the socialising hub of any home, Canwest News Service reports. Its where people want to hang out because its where they feel the most comfortable, she stated, adding that kitchen islands are a focal point for this activity. According to Ms Martin, many islands incorporate a kitchen sink for washing and preparing food, pull out dishwashers and even wine-storage facilities. This means homeowners can mingle with guests, while still having everything they need in one place, she added. Individuals were also advised to create a low-traffic work triangle between the kitchen sink, the refrigerator and the oven to speed up cooking tasks. Decorating Diary, an interior design column of Reading Eagle, recently reported that it is a good idea to match the colour scheme of a kitchen island to other hardware in the room.
