An interior designer has revealed that she decided to install a kitchen island during one of her makeover projects so as to create a more functional divide between the eating and cooking areas.Candice Olson, host of HGTVs Divine Design programme, noted that prior to her renovation, the kitchen had not suited the needs of her clients - a busy couple with a young son.It had an awkward layout, a cramped feel and an outdated look, she said in an article for the Evansville Courier Press. After having a major rethink about the whole layout and space, Ms Olson decided to flip the floor plan and install the island, she said. The designer added that once the floor plan was sorted, she chose to brighten up the room using creams and blues as the main colours with a little Irish green thrown in.Homeowners looking to upgrade their kitchens may also wish to invest in a new Franke kitchen sink or set of taps. According to Anna-Marie DeSouza, editor of Build It magazine, developing a house to its maximum potential can not only create a fantastic place to live but will also provide a sound investment.
