Kitchen improvements can be valuable

Homeowners hoping to add value to a property have been advised to focus on the kitchen.George Franks of estate agency Douglas Gordon told the Daily Telegraph that improvements to the room will be more valuable than anywhere else. Some work can result in returns twice what is paid out, he suggested, adding that a new kitchen can be particularly attractive to potential buyers. Its the one room that can really stand out as an aspirational showpiece for the property, the specialist remarked.Meanwhile, architecture expert Hugo Tugman was quoted by the paper as stating that proportional improvements are important, as a particularly expensive kitchen would look out of place in a modest home.It comes after Katie Adams of Alibaba.com noted that smaller renovations to food preparation areas can be better investments than large-scale kitchen upgrades.Minor jobs - which may include the installation of a new kitchen sink - can offer returns of more than 79 per cent in some cases, she said.
