Kitchen designers will place less emphasis on technology and focus on creating cosy, inviting rooms this year, a survey has found. The Times spoke to a range of design experts and concluded that the key interior style in 2010 will be high-tech rustic. According to the newspaper, this means kitchens will feature sustainable wood furniture and folkloric pattern furnishings ... where the gadgetry is hidden rather than a focal point.Tristan de la Haye, a consultant for the Evitavonni design shop, told the newspaper that his clients now want a cosier look. He added that stark, steel kitchens are being replaced by wood and pointed to the growing adoption of rich-looking, wood-fronted cabinets which were last popular in the 1980s.Mr de la Haye added that he expected to see circular kitchen islands replace the rectangle associated with the minimalist kitchen of the early noughties.Supporting the Times findings, kitchen designer Pat Ryan recently told the Riverhead News that he expected simple, retro styles to return to kitchen design over the coming decade.
