The growing adoption of open-plan living spaces means kitchen designs should be kept visually low key, an expert has said.Interior designer and architect Harvey Hine told dailycamera.com that unobtrusive designs have become increasingly important given the popularity for kitchens to be part of the public spaces.Mr Hine was speaking ahead of the annual Kitchens on Fire exhibition in the US in which his new Onyx kitchen design will be on show.He explained that to keep the unit simple, he had opted to put solid cabinetry on the back wall while keeping other parts of the kitchen out of typical sight lines. By doing that, when you look from the living room, the work space of the kitchen and all the appliances are hidden its very utilitarian, Mr Hine said. The designer also added glass shelves with overhead lighting to create a stylish display for kitchen objects - an addition that would also complement a ceramic kitchen sink or set of taps.Meanwhile Build It magazines deputy editor Anna-Marie DeSouza recently suggested this months football World Cup would create a huge rush to finish DIY jobs before the tournament gets into full swing.
