Kitchen design ideas must be realistic

Homeowners must balance their dreams and desires with what is practical and realistic when it comes to kitchen designs, an expert has said.Speaking to the New Lenox Patriot, John Troxell, design director of custom cabinetry firm Wood-Mode, said that people should be informed about all their options when renovating a kitchen in order to get the best design for their money.Mr Troxell said that a safe option is to select a traditional kitchen design which incorporates timeless elements such as clean lines and cabinetry that is proportionally scaled to the room size.He added that traditional designs are a worthwhile investment because they are likely to remain popular, regardless of other changing styles.White cabinets, for example, are always in vogue because they project a clean, neutral and stable look. The grain pattern and richness of cherry wood lends itself well to a classic-styled kitchen, said Mr Troxell.A recent survey by the Times also suggested that kitchen designers will place less emphasis on technology and focus on creating cosy, inviting rooms this year.
