Homeowners may seek to make more use of their core kitchen fixtures such as cookers and kitchen sinks if a new food tax is introduced. It has been reported that a new fat tax is due to be launched in Oldham that will mean new businesses seeking a license to serve takeaway food will have to pay a levy for the privilege.Commenting on the plan, the Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) claimed it could deal a serious blow to the UKs food industry. Were all in favour of healthy eating, but it all comes down to public choice at the end of the day, individual choice too, argued Bob Fox, director of NCASS.Its completely unfair how can you tax a McDonalds branch the same as a village chippy thats probably just surviving? Its just another stealth tax really, another way of getting money out of small businesses, which can ill afford it these days.Mr Fox maintained that health education should be the main means of reducing obesity rather than punishing businesses.
