Intelligent buildings key to energy saving

Intelligent interior design in new houses could lead to improved energy efficiency, a climate change website has said.ClimateChangeCorp (CCC) commented on the ascendancy of building IQ and noted that with built-in home automation, lights could switch off when rooms are empty, blinds could reposition throughout the day and central heating could adjust to real-time weather conditions.Although the website accepted that the technology is not yet perfected, the notion of sensor-based technology is viewed with increasing awareness and could be the key to future energy-saving projects.CCC said Technology helps buildings create a profile of the environment, so they can react intelligently and eliminate the need for air conditioning and power-hungry systems.Last month, Electronic House advocated the use of vacancy sensors, which detect if someone is no longer in a room where lights are usually left on, with lighting automatically switching off.It added that if 100 million households used these on one 60 watt bulb in their house, over 50 million (24.9 million) would be saved on energy bills.
