How to deal with your kitchen sink low water pressure

In todays busy age, low water pressure at your kitchen sink can be a real frustration. However, there are various steps you can take that may well improve the rate at which water flows from your kitchen taps, saving you a great deal of time in the long run. First of all, check to see whether your taps are clogged. Look at the end of the spout / aerator to see if there are lumps of limescale or other debris restricting the flow. Remove aerator if necessary and clean by soaking in vinegar. Turn on the tap and look to see whether there is a leak from the tap joints or on the connection between the pipes and the tap. If the tap and its fittings are ok, then your water pressure problem can be caused by the position of your water storage tank. If your tap is not connected directly to the mains, the water pressure produced by the head in the tank may not be high enough eg your tank is too low in relation to the tap. A solution maybe to connect the tap to the water supply as it comes into the house bypassing the tank. This will work for cold only unless you rework your hot supply too. Leaks in the pipework can also lead to a reduction in water pressure. Check the internal pipes that supplies water to your taps by checking the meter if you have one. Turn off the taps and valves in your home and make a note of the meter reading. Check it again after three to four hours. If the reading has changed, you will know you have a leak. Unless it is a simple job like cleaning the aerator we always recomend getting professional advice before starting any work.
