How to clean wood-style kitchen worktops

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Wood-style kitchen worktops can look stunning but you do have to make sure that they are regularly treated. The best option is to oil the wood regularly until the wood has but up its protection. Use Danish oil as this is inexpensive, non-toxic and will not go rancid like food oils. A more expensive option is to call in a professional to sand and seal the wood. Use apolyurethane coating (like Verathane) which is a hard plastic. The coating comes in high gloss, medium or satin finish. When cleaning the wood worktop stay away from bleach, vinegar and baking soda as they dry out the wood. Just use a damp cloth to wipe over and re-oil if necessary. However you choose to care for your worktop, make sure you look after it properly and do not mistreat it. Never put hot pans directly on it and dont let water stand on it, especially near the sink. Make sure you have a good supply of cutting boards and keep them to hand. Always make sure your worktop stays dry. Use a drainer board or tray next to the sink when using it.
