If you want your kitchen renovation to go as smoothly as possible, choosing the right kitchen fitter can be a critical decision. David Hamtil, co-owner of Hamtil Construction, says Most remodeling projects will be a significant investment in your home and you want to make sure its done right. Hiring the wrong person or the cheapest company could cost more in the end. Larry Bilotti, executive editor of BobVila.com, agrees. Youre trusting someone with a lot of money to work on your housedo as much as you can to vet this person, he says. If there are any problems in the future, you want to be able to call that contractor to have it fixed. It is vital that you plan your project in advance and provide your potential kitchen fitters with a detailed plan so that each one is bidding on the same work. If you have worked out which appliances, sink etc too that will help. Word of mouth and recommendation can be very helpful when choosing your fitter so ask family and friends for names of good ones. Conduct interviews with your potential contractors and take time to test their knowledge about permits and how they plan to meet budgets and schedules. Ideally, try and arrange to see the work of a kitchen fitter you are considering hiring. Make sure they are insured and get written quotes and contracts.
