How to choose a kitchen design that will last

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Kitchen trends come and go and some stand the test of time much better than others. Therefore, if you are investing in a kitchen that you want to last for many years, or even decades, how can you decide on a design that will not go out of fashion? Tina Riley of the Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association (KBSA) advises going for contrast and mixing colours, textures and materials to create a really individual look. Kitchens have become larger in recent years and are now more multi-functional than in times past. As a result, kitchen design has seen an increase in products that incorporate features such as open plan shelving and living furniture. There has been a move away from very dark colours, which can show every mark and smear, in favour of much lighter finishes. Look at ways of adding colour for a really personal look. Glass splash backs, small electrical appliances, tiles, window dressings and accessories can add individuality and colour but are very easily changed in the future without involving too much cost. Energy-saving appliances are also here to stay and there are now a wealth of energy efficient products on the market from energy efficient lighting and appliances to instant boiling water taps. It is also vital to remember that, although the look of the kitchen is important, practicality should never be sacrificed as a result. Kitchens should be easy to clean and there should be enough storage space for the users needs.
