A green kitchen builder has given his tips on how to create the ultimate green kitchen.Joel Bittle, director of green building division RSI Green, says the three categories that determine a products greenness are health, sustainability and energy.Writing for Green Options, he gives seven steps for homeowners looking to achieve an environmentally friendly kitchen.First of all, designing a kitchen with plenty of energy efficient windows or a skylight gives an important connection to the green outdoors, Mr Bittle writes.Although formaldehyde-free cabinets are limited, he advises choosing low VOC materials or paints.Recycled countertops are becoming increasingly available, he adds, as are sustainable flooring options.Mr Bittle advises replacing appliances with energy-efficient newer models and recycled plumbing utensils and accessories.Earlier this month a group of experts said that every homeowner can do something to make their kitchen greener.Speaking to the Wilmette Life, the owners of Green Homes advised people to carry out simple modifications to reduce energy and water waste.
