Giving careful consideration to budgeting can keep a kitchen refit project from turning into a financial nightmare, according to one news channel.Home and Garden Television (HGTV) says homeowners should first conduct a thorough and honest examination of their finances to find out how much they can afford to spend. Everett Collier, president of the National Association of the Remodelling Industry told the news provider If a person is going to stay in a home for five years or less then the improvements should be viewed as improvements on investment. He added those planning on staying longer should look at what is going to make their family the most comfortable. HGTV states room should be left for the unexpected and last-minute changes.The news provider advises homeowners to keep track of spending as the project progresses and adds those using credit to finance the refit should ensure they shop around for the best rate.In a related article, HGTV suggests up to 50 per cent of a kitchen refit budget should be allocated to cabinets, around a third to appliances, a quarter to countertops and the rest to flooring and lighting.
