Britons are forking out the most money for improving their kitchens, a new survey has found. The average amount spent on home improvements over the last 12 months stood at 5,300, the study for Halifax General Insurance revealed.Making-over a kitchen was the most expensive DIY project, with around 6,300 spent on doing up this room, although new kitchen taps could be an affordable way to revamp the kitchen. But homeowners who had lived in their house for more than ten years splashed out the most on their kitchen, the highest coming in at an average of 8,000.People who kick-started their kitchen DIY over the bank holiday may have fitted new kitchen taps. However, AA Insurance recently advised homeowners that they may want to get a professional to fit kitchen taps should a plumbing disaster strike.Simon Douglas from AA Insurance said Plumbing accidents such as drilling through a hidden pipe or damaging a tap and flooding the home seem to be common.ADNFCR-1321-ID-19185349-ADNFCR
