Homeowners should make changes relevant to home value

A leading property site has claimed that with costs spiralling for stamp duty, legal costs and estate agent fees, homeowners may be best to stay put and maximise the value of their current abode - with the kitchen central to this. Real estate site 999Today.com said that making the right kind of home improvements could bring people a top return on their investment, with the site insisting that all jobs must be done with a commitment to quality, or the price would be paid later. Making changes in the kitchen was identified as a good way of boosting a houses value but the site cautioned that changes should not be disproportionate to the overall value of the property. Spending 30,000 on a kitchen revamp could be a mistake in an area where the maximum selling price was only 150,000, it was claimed, with smaller changes to sinks, taps and waste disposal systems often a better way of sprucing up an average kitchen. Other changes discussed by 999Today.com included the restoration of period features and the installation of security systems, both of which could make a house easier to sell, but not necessarily at a higher value.
