Homeowners looking to update their kitchen designs could opt for more earthy tones, according to a kitchen makeover firm.Granite Transformations reports a rise in homeowners bucking the trend for black surfaces, with bright orange seeing the biggest growth in sales.New stainless steel sinks and sink accessories could be part of kitchen refurbishments, as homeowners choose to stay in their current homes instead of moving.People planning to stay put are opting for kitchen designs to suit their own tastes, instead of kitchen designs that may be attractive to house-hunters.According to the firm, black granite worktops accounted for more than 50 per cent of UK sales, with homeowners choosing safe colours for selling their homes.However, as people prepare to ride out the economic recovery in their current house, black worktop sales have dropped to 35 per cent.In addition to new worktops, new kitchen sinks and sink accessories could be installed as part of DIY kitchen projects.The DIY and gardening sector is set to grow to 12.9 billion by 2014, according to Verdict.
