Homebuyers should demand to keep eye-catching sinks

Homebuyers will do well to ensure that key areas such as the kitchen have fixtures and fittings thrown into the bidding, it has been claimed.Country Life magazine claimed that demanding that extras be thrown into the bargain could seem pushy and untutored during the heated buying process, but claimed that it would pay off once the move was made.Reminding buyers of the need to ensure a good bargain for the price they are paying, the site claimed that many a vendor will take even the kitchen sink with them if no agreement is made, making haggling wholly necessary. And as a general rule, buyers were advised to request to keep any eye-catching fixtures and fittings, from plush new kitchen sinks and taps to curtains, carpets and white goods. But as another rule, Country Life deemed it ill-advised to demand both the inclusion of fixtures and fittings and a knock-down on the price advertised, suggesting that one or the other route is chosen.Recent research from Convex suggested that a trend for removing fixtures before sale had taken hold in line with the credit crunch, with 60 per cent of home sellers willing to throw in some free fixtures and fitting in the first half of 2007, and only 35 per cent in the latter half of the year.
