The Home Group will trial a new scheme that enables customers to complete local DIY work on features such as kitchen sinks and pump their savings back into the community. Groups in the three Home Group estates will be able to complete certain repairs to assist those who cannot work on their own homes. Once this work is completed, a Community Cashback account is available, which can fund further home improvements in the local area. Home Groups chief executive Mark Henderson said We believe this scheme offers a real chance for customers to take responsibility for the upkeep of their homes and neighbourhoods, while making savings and potentially gaining practical and transferable employment skills. Mr Henderson also indicated that the proposal rewards customers and deserves to be given attention by homeowners. The Energy Saving Trust has claimed that smart meters could also save money for property owners.
