A graduating product and furniture design student has invented an electronic tea towel which he says will boost kitchen hygiene.Paul Oxley, who graduates from Leicesters De Montfort University next week, developed the idea for a high-tech replacement for kitchen cloths. The 24-year-old says that millions of people get food poisoning each year, with anywhere between 100 and 200 people dying as a result. I found that one of the main ways of spreading the bacteria responsible for most cases is through the use of tea towel, he adds.In response to this I have designed a hygienic solution to many of the chores associated with the tea towel. His product, Aquavac, will clean up wet and dry mess around the kitchen as well as drying hands and crockery. The polymers in the towel are impregnated with anti-bacterial substances, making it perfectly hygienic, Mr Oxley states.Bacteria need warmth and moisture to grow and in the right conditions one bacterium could become several millions in eight hours, the Food Standards Agency says.
