High cabinets can cramp a kitchen, expert claims

Kitchen cabinets placed high on walls can often give a cramped appearance to cooking areas, one expert has claimed. Architect Neal Swartz stated that uppers may encroach on the feeling of space in food-preparation zones and it may often be better to use pantry cabinets instead, Canwest News Service reports. According to Mr Swartz, those who really want this type of kitchen hardware should consider running them all the way to the ceiling. This is to give the impression that they feel like theyre part of the wall rather than boxes hanging off the walls, he remarked. People were also advised that a number of other options do exist and homeowners can replace kitchen cabinets with open shelves, art or even windows.Interior designer on BBC1s DIY SOS Julia Kendell recently said that surfaces for worktops and cabinets in kitchen sink areas are becoming more interesting.
