Halifax: 2.6bn of unused kitchen gadgets across UK

Britons have unused kitchen gadgets costing 2.6 billion, a Halifax study has revealed.The Halifax Home Insurance research said men are the biggest culprits of buying kitchen gadgets and not using them they spend an average of 119 a year on items which get left in cupboards.Women spend around a third less at 88.Unused kitchen gadgets worth 500 can be found in more than 250,000 households across the country, the survey showed.Toastie makers are the most abandoned gadget, unused by 32 per cent of households that own one.Blenders remain unused by 21 per cent and grilling machines, steamers, juicers and electric carving knives are relegated to cupboards by 17 per cent.David Rochester, head of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance, said kitchen gadgets have become decorative items for millions of wannabe chefs.British kitchens are turning into a graveyard of unused gadgets, he said.While Britons have the best intentions when buying kitchen gadgets, thousands of blenders, grills, steamers and juicers lie idle on worktops.A survey by Legal and General revealed that the average estimated cost of replacing kitchen contents is 5,264.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18622569-ADNFCR
