Grey will be a popular tone in kitchen design this year

Several interior designers have suggested that grey will be the hot new neutral for 2010.The Daily Mail interviewed a range of stylists who claimed that grey will replace other popular neutral tones like cream, biscuit and white in the coming year.Francesca Bianchi, director of online retailer Contemporary-home.co.uk, said It gives a calm, clean, grown-up feel to a living-space, while retaining a coolness that makes it modern. The human eye can distinguish 500 shades of grey, so it need never be boring.The newspaper noted that these shades range from pewter to slate grey and from charcoal to steel, saying that such tones were highly applicable to modern kitchen designs.Meanwhile, Helen Harwood, a buyer for the furniture design firm Amode, said that grey shades can form the perfect base colours for practical furniture items.In a recent interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Marvin Daniel, president of US renovation firm Kitchen Designworks, said that the challenging economic climate has prompted homeowners to seek comfort in traditional designs.
