Homeowners can save money for years to come by using sustainable kitchen appliances and materials, it has been claimed.Architect and designer Brian Johnson told the International Business Times that while going green can cost up to 20 per cent more than a traditional design to begin with, the payback can be worthwhile in the long-run.It can occur within five years if its a green system such as radiant floor heating, he said.Mr Johnson was speaking after his recent win in the Best Sustainable Kitchen category at the Kitchen Bath Associations industry show in the US.His winning design combined a range of materials including sustainable woods like bamboo, soapstone, stained concrete and steel ductwork as well as an abundance of natural light.Last week, a report in the Edmonton Journal urged homeowners to ensure their kitchen countertops are made of a durable material if they wish to maintain both form and function.
