Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

The government is trying to educate the nation on how to reduce its levels of food waste, it has emerged.Waste and Resources Action Plan (Wrap) has created the Love Food Hate Waste campaign to raise awareness and teach people how to maximise what they put in their shopping baskets, with a view to halving food bills and wastage.A key initiative is a joint venture with the Womens Institute to create classes for women where they can share information on a number of issues such as cooking more efficiently and making the most of leftovers.Julia Falcon, one of Wraps campaign managers, told the Independent We throw away a third of the food we buy in the UK, so to cut back that waste by 50 per cent is outstanding.Mr Falcon puts the burgeoning success of the initiative down to the community-based feel of some of the projects. We can see that groups who decide to share their experiences with each other, and tackle this problem together, work extremely well, she says.Wrap is a non-profit organisation established in 2000 and is backed by government funding. Its key objectives are to reduce waste sent to the UKs landfill sites reduce carbon emissions and to increase the economic benefits of environmentally-friendly activity. ADNFCR-1321-ID-18846654-ADNFCR
