The Conservative party has accused the government of burying bad news regarding Home Information Packs (Hips).A report regarding consumer attitudes to Hips was issued without a press release on October 31st, leading the opposition to accuse Labour of trying to hide research which seemingly undermines of its flagship policies. The Conservatives claim that the report shows that consumers feels Hips make buying and selling a house needlessly complicated. In addition, they state that few sellers and buyers read the report in any detail and that there is a general apathy amongst sellers who struggled to see the purpose of paying for something that received low levels of interest from buyers.Shadow minister for housing, Grant Shapps, said Home Information Packs have served to undermine the housing market, increase the cost of buying and selling a home, duplicate surveys and discourage speculative sellers.Hips were introduced in 2007, with the requirement that every home on the market have one coming into force on December 14th.
