Using energy-efficient lighting in the kitchen could save homeowners money in the long run as well as benefiting the environment, one expert has suggested. Writing for the Times, former Friends of the Earth UK director Tony Juniper noted that in his house he had changed lighting fixtures for more environmentally-friendly options. He stated The spotlights in our kitchen ceiling were originally of the halogen type each time we switched on the kitchen lights, we were piling half a kilowatt of power into them. These have now been replaced with light-emitting diode types that are more efficient, Mr Juniper added.Despite the fact that these are slightly more expensive, he remarked, they have more longevity and use less energy so they actually save money.Last month, Author of Good Green Kitchens Jennifer Roberts told the HGTV website that those who use a dishwasher instead of a kitchen sink should consider buying water-efficient models.
