Devon has been named as one of the best counties for recycling, as green residents have been leading the way on waste disposal.According to the latest figures from Defra, Devon recycles almost half of its waste (46 per cent).Margaret Rogers, Devon country councils executive member for environment, told local newspaper the Mid Devon Star that it was a great achievement.More and more people are realising that we have to start reducing the amount of waste going to landfill for the sake of the environment - and the economy, she said.Composting kitchen waste was one piece of advice for would-be recyclers, with Christmas a key time for this.New inventions for the kitchen such as the in-sink-erator, which can compact food waste into tiny particles allowing it to flow down the drain, is a low-power means of reducing the amount of kitchen rubbish passing through the household.
