Botched kitchen jobs are becoming increasingly common as unqualified tradesmen get their hands on the homes of Britons. The survey for Times Online carried out by Lloyds TSB Insurance found that unregistered plumbers - who could have installed kitchen sinks and taps - were one of the most regularly cited examples of bad repair work. One in ten Britons have had to make a claim on their household insurance to correct below-standard work, the newspaper reported, such as kitchen home improvements. It can cost at much as 1,250 to put right, which could highlight the importance of getting high-quality builders and tradesmen in to carry out work in the home, such as the kitchen.Speaking to the publication, Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said Homeowners need to confirm traders full credentials and avoid the false economy of unqualified labour.Getting a kitchen right could be important, after the latest figures from the Building Societies Association showed that an increasing number of Britons think now is the right time to buy a home.
