Parents may want to look for a bigger kitchen soon, as a new cookbook is expected to get children more interested in cooking. The British Nutrition Societys deputy director Stephanie Valentine said Real Meals free to all 11-year-olds from the government will get more kids into the kitchen. I think [the book] will have a good impact on encouraging children and young people to do some practical cooking, she said. Ms Valentine added that it may be a useful contribution to the fight against obesity. Real Meals features recipes for a range of dishes, including cottage pie, chicken pasta salad, mushroom risotto, vegetable curry and summer pudding. For families who are really enthusiastic about cooking, kitchens can be planned for maximum efficiency and fun. Plenty of storage space is the key, plus multi-functional preparation areas. Choosing a one-and-a-half-bowl sink can allow space to wash saucepans, drain pasta and fill the kettle, for example. Astracast kitchen sinks offer the Alto 1-5, which is stylish and easy to clean in a stainless steel finish.
