Franke kitchen sink features in award winning design

A Franke kitchen sink was used to add a modern and functional touch to an award winning kitchen design, it has been revealed.The kitchen took first place in the traditional category at the recent Bi-Annual Sub-Zero/Wolf Kitchen Design Contest in the US, Kitchen Bath Design News reported.According to the news provider, the owners of the kitchen, which was first built in 1915, had wanted renovator and award winner Vasi Ypsilantis to give it a fresh look while retaining original features like the main sink, cooker hood and wall tiles.It was important to respect the homes design integrity, but I also wanted to design a traditional kitchen of today, said Ms Ypsilantis.She therefore selected a range of high-end products, including the Franke prep sink, a Wolf microwave drawer and a Sub-Zero wine cooler.Ms Ypsilantis said her favourite part of the kitchen was the central island a re-imagined version of an ice box island brought up to date by using six Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer drawer units. Meanwhile, writing for the Seattle Times this week, interior designer Rosemary Sadez Friedmann suggested that homeowners can make their kitchens more functional and easy to use by installing pull-out shelves in favour of cabinets.
