An ingenious food waste disposer has been selected as one of the finalists in the Electrolux Design Lab 2010 competition, it has been revealed.The competition, which shortlisted 25 semi-finalists for their appliance designs of the future in June, is now down to the final eight entries including the Eco Cleaner by Iranian product designer Ahi Andy Mohsen, Gizmag.com reported.As the website observed, the item is a portable, compact dishwasher and composter as well as a food waste disposer.Using ultrasonic waves it ionizes food and turns it into reusable waste, said Gizmag. This concept relies on two predictions - firstly, that the food of the future will come in capsule form so there will be smaller vessels used for preparing and eating food, and secondly, time for household chores will be limited.This years Electrolux Design Lab competition attracted 1,300 designers from all over the world who were challenged with the brief of having to create space-saving home appliances that would be suited to life in the heavily-populated urban environments expected by 2050.The finalists are due to present their designs to a jury in London on September 23rd.
