Five tips for a simpler kitchen

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

An individual approach to kitchen design can help achieve a simpler, more streamlined space, according to a group of experts.Designer Jessica Kalina says antiquated ideas such as the work triangle are not individualised enough and so will not work well.Speaking to Home and Garden Television (HGTV), she says Most designers today start with how you work in the kitchen, from sink to fridge to dishes and then design a personal solution for simplicity instead of expecting you to change your behaviour to fit a one-size-fits-all kitchen organisation.Ms Kalina, organisation expert Louise Kurzek and feng shui guru Danielle Kovach gave HGTV their five tips to simplify a kitchen.First they advise identifying how often and where kitchen equipment is used so it can be housed appropriately. This also means cabinets and drawers should be considered carefully so they offer the best way of storing each item.Ms Kurzeka suggests installing drawers rather than deep cabinets, making it easier to reach things at the back. For those who use the kitchen as a message centre a place for hanging car keys, storing homework and filing letters an under-counter file cabinet will give a place to keep things. The final thing to consider is the visual impact of the materials. Ms Kalina says sticking to two or three materials can give a simple, soothing look.Research published by Mintel earlier this month revealed that Britons will buy 88.5 million pots, pans and kitchen knives this year.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18652578-ADNFCR
