The kitchen is one of the most important areas to Feng Shui as it represents nourishment and prosperity, according to one report.Writing for SheKnows, Marla Hardee Milling says it is human nature to associate food and nutrition with nurturing and sustenance and how you design and decorate the kitchen may influence your prosperity and health.Ms Hardee Milling says that although there are different schools of Feng Shui, basic principles can be applied to all kitchens.The cook should be in a commanding position when at the oven, she writes, by facing the door. If this is not possible a reflective surface placed over the oven can correct the situation.Colours in the kitchen should be white, light green and blue, Ms Hardee Milling suggests, while fire colours such as red, pink and purple should be avoided.Appliances representing different elements the oven is fire, the refrigerator is water should be kept separate, while the kitchen in general should be kept neat and uncluttered, she adds.Improving the lighting in the kitchen can give a dramatic and cost-effective change, according to designer Cindy Raskin.Speaking to Home and Garden Television she said lighting is divided in to three areas general, task and accent.
