Feng shui promotes kitchen harmony

Homeowners can use feng shui to make their kitchen a more harmonious and functional space, an expert has said.Speaking to thestar.com, Chinese feng shui practitioner Paul Ng said that kitchen owners can promote the positive flow of energy known as qi (pronounced chee) by adapting their layouts and decor. In the kitchen, this includes keeping the sink and stove at right angles, Mr Ng said. He added that if they are along the same side, they should be kept three feet apart but should never be adjacent because this symbolises a conflict between water and fire. In addition, Mr Ng told the news provider that countertops should not be cluttered as this disrupts the qi in the kitchen. For the decor, opt for peaceful pictures of food or nature. Add green plants such as jade or rubber plants, or vases of fresh flowers, reported the website.According to interior designer Ellen Cheever, who wrote for Kitchen and Bath Design News, kitchen designs that position the cooking area in the centre of the room are becoming increasingly popular among busy families.ADNFCR-1321-ID-19607929-ADNFCR
