British homeowners spent millions of pounds correcting failed DIY projects last year, new figures show.A survey by Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank suggests that Brits shelled out about 235 million to rectify DIY problems in 2009.The poll of 2,000 UK residents found that one in ten DIYers had paid out up to 500 to fix their own home improvement mess.In addition, the study revealed that almost 14 million households employed a tradesman to complete work around the home in the last year. This might have included tricky jobs like installing a new kitchen sink or set of taps.Steve Reid, retail director at Clydesdale Bank, said A home is probably the biggest purchase most of us will ever make so its important to maintain and protect that investment. DIY may seem to be an easy way to save money but without the skills or tools it can end up costing a lot more to put right. In same instances it can even ruin a home. ADNFCR-1321-ID-800117378-ADNFCR
