Existing kitchens require energy upgrades

The UKs existing building stock must be tackled in order to meet the governments climate change targets, AECOM has said.Ant Wilson, director of sustainability at the management support company, suggested that despite having no clear definition of zero carbon, the government has plans in place to make all new homes and buildings zero carbon by 2016 and 2019 respectively. However, he added that in order to reduce carbon and achieve strict targets set out in the Climate Change Act, the government must look at improving existing building stock.[With] any new building added to the stock - particularly in housing - unless you knock some down, you are just adding to the problem. That is true if you add a new hospital or a new school or we extend the number of supermarkets every new building, even if it is zero carbon, does nothing to reduce our carbon, Mr Wilson said. The comments come after Zack Bruell, chef and owner of four restaurants in Cleveland, US, told News Canada that the location of a kitchen sink is a vital aspect when it comes to making the room work efficiently.ADNFCR-1321-ID-800241956-ADNFCR
