A wide range of attractive, environmentally-friendly products are now available for kitchen designs, an expert has said.Bruce Curtis, owner of the home remodelling firm Washtenaw Woodwrights, wrote for AnnArbor.com that the range of choice means that homeowners should carefully select their materials when deciding to go green. For flooring Mr Curtis suggested using locally-produced wood or strand-woven bamboo. The strand woven products are harder and tougher than conventional hardwoods, he noted.Mr Curtis also suggested using compact fluorescent lamps or LEDs as environmentally-friendly lighting options. He added that it is important to choose the right lights in order to avoid washing out all of the colour in a kitchen. He added that wood and recycled glass countertops are stylish green options for kitchen sink areas. In an innovative kitchen design, an eco-conscious interior designer showed the Sun-Times Media last week how she was able to create recycled countertops out of the glass from old airport runway lights.
