More eco-friendly homes need to be built before they can be affordably price, according to construction experts. The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) said that building homes with a more eco-friendly design including better insulation and heat regulation was currently too expensive.A spokesperson for the FMB said Because they are not being done in a very large scale, it does cost considerably more to build an eco-friendly home, anything up to 25,000 on the initial price. He claimed, however, that while zero-carbon homes are more expensive than what would be described as standard affordable housing, building them on a larger scale would mean the price will come down. The FMB highlighted that while some eco-homes were being built, other properties were being renovated by green-conscious homeowners through DIY changes that lowered waste and carbon emissions.Changes often made by people carrying out home improvements include bolstering insulation, adding double glazing and installing sink waste disposal units which go a long way to reducing kitchen waste destined for the landfill.
