New, ergonomic drawer units are replacing traditional kitchen cabinets, an interior designer has said.Carole Porter, owner of the design firm Kitchen Arts in the US, told the Issaquah Press that drawers allow for easier access, a wider vision of contents and a better use of the space. In addition, Ms Porter said that homeowners are moving away from the traditional triangle design - whereby the sink, refrigerator and stove are located in a functional, triangular layout in favour of creating more workstations in the kitchen. She said that regardless of how people go about their home renovations, they should start with a vision that could involve gathering pictures of their likes and dislikes. Once this vision is in place, homeowners should then also consider their practical needs including countertop space and appliances like kitchen taps, Ms Porter added.Last month, Sally Bendelow, head of home design at Marks and Spencer, told the Belfast Telegraph that the kitchens status as the focal point of the home would encourage more people to test out new designs this year.
