Homeowners should avoid taking on too much when renovating their kitchens, it has been suggested.Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, argued that the number of injuries sustained from poor home improvements is due to increase as a result of homeowners attempting to save money during the financial downturn. He commented that many accidents are caused by the misuse of power tools and observed that some DIY homeowners are often over ambitious and overestimate their level of skill. However, poorly executed DIY can have more than an affect on a homeowners health - it can reduce the value of a property as much as five per cent, added Mr Holmes. He urged people to do their research and seek expert help for specialist tasks like plumbing and electrical work. This could include rewiring appliances or work surfaces and replacing kitchen sinks and taps.Meanwhile, Simon Errill, managing director at Stonehouse Tiles, recently claimed that a growing number of homeowners are seeking to adopt nature-inspired looks within their kitchens.
