An eco-conscious interior designer used a range of recycled materials, including old airport runway lights, to make stylish kitchen countertops.Pam VanDeursen told Sun-Times Media that the glass from the lights was used to give the countertops a unique colour. Ms VanDeursen has turned various recycled materials into a range of colourful glass pieces for use in kitchen sink areas. Blue countertops are made from vodka bottles, while a green effect is achieved by using recycled mineral water bottles.Referring to current renovation trends, Ms VanDeursen said that in light of the present housing market situation, more people are choosing to stay where they are, making it vital that they optimise what they already have in a home. She told the news provider that where homeowners were unsure of what they wanted from a design, a plan could still be made by developing simple ideas about colour and functionality.Neil Wertheimer, editor-in-chief of Fresh Home magazine, recently wrote for Newsobserver.com that homeowners are increasingly using their kitchen design to express their personalities through unique combinations.
