An interior designer was able to create an attractive, functional kitchen despite being severely restricted by a lack of space.Architect and designer Ernesto Santalla converted a cramped condo apartment in the US by removing a corridor and knocking down a dividing wall, the Washington Post reported. This opened up the kitchen, allowing for more countertop space in the kitchen sink and food preparation areas. The homeowner, Glen Ackerman, also worked closely with Mr Santalla to define clear areas for eating, living and sleeping in the small space. I wanted to have a nice kitchen, even though I am not a cook, Mr Ackerman told the newspaper. In order to create a sense of continuity, Mr Santalla used a unifying taupe-and-cream colour scheme throughout the apartment.According to the Chinese feng shui practitioner Paul Ng, who spoke to thestar.com, homeowners can make their kitchens more harmonious and functional by adapting their layouts and decor.
