Appliances in stainless steel can be used in any style kitchen, from contemporary to country, without becoming cold and industrial, according to Home and Garden Television (HGTV).Speaking to the network, designer Mark White says stainless steel is neutral and versatile, making all equipment look clean and professional.He and other designers give their ideas for incorporating the material without ending up with a sterile kitchen.Limits should be set on the use of stainless steel in the kitchen, the feature reports, adding it should be used as a focal point or a fine enhancement never both.The look of stainless steel can be softened with granite and ceramic, adds designer Karen Sciascia.She suggests granite counters or a ceramic tile backsplash and adds that wood can also warm the appearance of the metal.Covers for appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers should be considered, as should the need for clearance and vents.Earlier this month designer Becky Spak told HGTV that paint colours should be chosen carefully to ensure cabinets, worktops and walls do not compete with each other.
