A revolution is taking place in country housing design, according to Country Life magazine.Buyers are still in love with the rural charms of the countryside, but wish to bring something of the modern city practicality to their home design, making stylish kitchens and library cinema rooms the new standard. The kitchen, now very much the heart of the home, is not tucked away any longer, and huge American-style fridge-freezers and fridge larders are replacing pantries, larders and sculleries, said Country Life.Features like home cinemas were said to be on the way in, with age-old impracticalities on the way out, such as the inconvenience of draughty drawing rooms and one loo for every ten bedrooms.Studies from agent Knight Frank are cited as evidence of a boom in country-side property buying and redesign, with more than 3,000 country houses in excess of 1 million selling in the past year. The buying spree is reported to have triggered the creation of stylish houses of modern convenience which cater to city tastes but in a rural setting.
