Concealed kitchens which are discreetly incorporated into the homes other primary living spaces are among the top trends in home design this year, an industry body has said. According to the National Kitchen Bath Association (NKBA) in the US, which has announced its top ten design trends from the 2010 NKBA Design Competition, kitchen design has reached a new level of integration whereby open-plan living spaces now afford homeowners greater flexibility in their lives. It added that aesthetic designs are now accounting for this integration of rooms, with clean structural lines coupled with sleek colour palettes allowing the kitchen to establish a distinctive identity without overpowering the surrounding rooms. The incorporation of integrated and concealed appliances allows the kitchen to enhance rather than intrude into other spaces, observed the NKBA. Meanwhile, the Seattle Times reported this week that an interior designer installed an extra-deep sink in the kitchen of a family home to make the room more functional for cooking tasks.
