Christmas Day kitchen sink warning

Customers of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water are being warned to be careful about what they pour down their kitchen sinks during the Christmas holiday. Welsh Waters Helen Smith said Christmas Day could turn into a nightmare if people were tempted to pour food waste and grease into their sinks and drains. Every year many families end up with domestic dramas during the holiday because they incorrectly dispose of cooking waste, she said. The correct way to dispose of the fat is to let it cool, pour it into a container and then put it out with the household rubbish. Welsh Water will have emergency crews working to deal with problems with the public sewers but, if the problem is in your kitchen or private drain, it is your responsibility to get it unblocked. Please dispose of your turkey fat in the right way. We want all our customers to have a merry Christmas and a blockage-free New Year, she added.
