A homeowner decided to retain a central kitchen island at his newly-bought property in order to make the room more sociable.Robin Jack told the Scotsman that his stylish Georgian house had already undergone a recent kitchen renovation when he bought it. He said that he had decided to keep a well-positioned kitchen island because it made the room a better space for entertaining guests. In addition, Mr Jack decided to keep and make use of the existing corner cupboards, which he said had proved to be a storage asset. However, unhappy with the deep blue colours used on the kitchen walls, he decided to repaint the room in warmer and less sterile tones. This week, Diana Schrage, an interior designer for the Kohler Design Center in the US, told JSOnline that people can quickly change the appearance of their kitchens by replacing features like taps, hardware or cabinetry. She suggested that kitchen taps can be both sculptural and practical, creating a vibrant focal point in a room.
